Explanation: This graph shows the evolution of the number of applications that were funded and not funded by FWO. For a more nuanced view, the graph also provides the option to further zoom in on the following parameters: type of funding, gender, nationality, and discipline. Additionally, when selecting a line, it is possible to view the underlying distribution among these categories in more detail.
How to use this chart? How to export the displayed data and/or chart?
Sources: The data is provided by FWO, and this chart offers an interactive way to view similar information as presented in the annual reports since 2010.
The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) stimulates and supports fundamental scientific research, strategic basic research, clinical scientific research, the acquisition of heavy and medium-weight research infrastructure, and the management of large computing capacity in Flanders through financial aid. With the financial resources primarily provided by the Flemish Government, the FWO funds mandates and research projects, infrastructure, travel grants, and international scientific cooperation. In the interactive graph above, we show the number of funded and non-funded applications for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral personal research grants, as well as research projects.
The FWO supports fundamental scientific research aimed at deepening the understanding of humans and their environment. It also supports strategic basic research, which is an important step in the valorization of scientific breakthroughs. Engage with the FWO data to become more familiar with this tool! You can easily create a graph on internationalization by grouping the data by ‘nationality’. Additionally, this tool allows you to further break down the displayed data by enabling or disabling underlying data through the selection menus (see the third row). This also allows you to zoom in on the data of a specific university, discipline, or personnel category. By clicking on the displayed lines, you can also select the data you want to view in more detail.
